    Etsy gave me a hand.

Well, not gave. But I ordered a wonderful silicone hand from this vendor on etsy. It has armature wire inside, allowing it to be posed.

  • Cutting him up

    Cutting him up

You can see on the ring finger that I made my first cut with the xacto knife. I'm trying to match the various scars, but leaving out the fresh new one in the middle.

  • Cuts are... cut.

    Cuts are... cut.

Simply slicing wasn't enough. I cut a v shaped groove in each spot. I didn't worry too much about the lines being clean or consistent... the irregularity will pay off in the end!

  • Paint!

    Paint!

I painted it with Psycho Paint by Smooth-on, colored with their Silc Pig line. The main color was a mix of blood, blue, red and brown, done in a couple of passes with different pigments each time. The lines were darkened with a brown/black mix, then the entire thing was dirtied up with a bit of brown.

    natural light

Had to get a nice natural light shot of him!

  • Starting the stitches

    Starting the stitches

I used a waxed leather thread to sew him up. A curved needle is a must! It is a continuous line, and I tried to be irregular like the original, though I did NOT attempt to match exact stitch patterns. You can see that the wide v line with the really heavy black in the middle gets pulled together by the stitches, looking much more like it should.

  • All sewn up!

    All sewn up!

Getting the poses right is hard. His default stance wants to tip backward.

    I had to

    yup.

    The end result

Thing now watches over me while I work.
