stormtrooperguy’s comlink

costumes, toys and tech.

yes, i’m alive.

not being in front of a computer all day makes me less posty.

let’s see… tomorrow ends my 2 weeks off (for those who may have missed it, i got a new job and was laid off on my way in to quit. no, really, i went in to tell my boss that i was leaving and he greeted me with my exit package!)

over the last 2 weeks i’ve done a ton of sculpting, painting, etc…

i finished the sculpt for the clone visor, made the mold, cast one up and painted a cody helmet.

i’ve almost got the codpiece and butt plates done on the clone sculpt, which pushes me well over the 1/2 way point and into “almost done”.

got http://www.watchcityarmory.com/ up and running at last. it’s all in mediawiki. technically it’s stormtrooperguy.com rebranded. it just seemed easier that way. gotta get email set up for it… google apps rocks!

cleaned up the basement quite a bit, including rearranging it.

i got an iphone 3gs on release day. yay video! yay better camera! boo on at&t for not having mms ready yet. jodi now has my gen1 iphone and seems quite happy. speaking of, boo on the fact that the 3gs gets worse battery life and requires a different power supply than the gen1, meaning my clock radio is no longer a charger. boo indeed.

i start my new job on monday. 2 weeks of loafing has been fun, but i’m ready to get back to it, and excited about something new. it’s in waltham too, so the commute is VASTLY improved, and i suspect that i won’t encounter junkies shooting up on the street at the new place.

I got the idea into my head to finally start working on the new Boba Fett section of my site, with the gauntlets being the first piece.

I got sidetracked by finding a good multiple file upload extension for MediaWiki. I ended up going with MultiUpload. Simple install and easily configurable… what more could I ask for?

With that in place, it was much easier to upload my images. MediaWiki REALLY likes the images to be locally managed, and I tend to agree — Having all of your images contained within MediaWiki will help prevent dead links.

So one extension later and the Boba Fett section has content! Not much, but it’s a start.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll pick at some other parts of it, probably the helmets. That will take a while… I think I’m on my 10th different one now! Ooh, and I can actually take photos of the poor Jango helmet that I made a long time ago.

The Fett gauntlets are done! Both in the sense that the scratch build that I started over a year ago is now finished, and that I’ve produced a kit and assembled/painted it. Hooray for FINALLY being done with that!

I’ve also got the mold finished for a second Toon style clone helmet. I need a few buckets for myself, so rather than getting in Sean-We’s way with personal stuff, I can just make my own. Then we can make them faster if needed.

Tomorrow I won’t really get much done on the crafting front, but that’s OK, I’m getting tons of stuff done!

After a several years long saga, 501st.com is back in the hands of the 501st web team! There was a whole complicated mess about domain ownership/registration that’s not worth getting into, but it resulted in us using 501stlegion.org for a while with some funky redirects.

As of about 10 minutes ago, 501st.com is now fully managed by the legion webmaster. I just twiddled the necessary knobs to make it work on the legion web server, and all is right with the world.

It is strangely satisfying to see that project come to a close!

So, as just about anyone reading this knows, we built a Jabba the Hutt puppet a while back. Full sized… quite the beast. And we made a little 15 second video clip of his tongue moving:

After a conversation at work about how more time has been spent watching the “history of dance” video than fighting certain notable wars, I went to look at the stats.

The Jabba video has over 77K views. At 15 seconds each, that means that over 13 days of human existence has been spent looking at Jabba’s tongue.

That’s just scary, sad, and sort of cool.

Speaking of Jabba, if you’re in NH come check out Granite State Comiccon this weekend on the 31st. http://www.granitecon.com/

We’ll be there, with Jabba!

phew.

last night, silk road bbq. it’s in belmont. it’s just a cart… no building, no chairs. but awesome lamb kebab and rice pilaf. mmmmm. followed by gelato at angelato, also in belmont, right across the street from the parking lot that the cart is at.

today. sowa open market / open studios. so. many. artists! we fizzled out eventually, after going through… over 200 artists. and all the antiques / crafts / food in the open market. then we walked all over boston, finally getting back on the train at charles/mgh.

oh, and we saw some anonymous people partying at government center, with music, masks and fliers.

we made dinner, and then caught up on all of our dvr stuff.

castle finale. supernatural finale. dollhouse is done. man… tv this summer is looking bleak.

but, supernatural and castle are both getting season two!!! so excited!

Today I learned about porn and neck ties. Yesterday it was kettle bells and networking like a man.

Fun site… I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s worth repeating:

http://artofmanliness.com/

I’ve gotten a bunch of recruiter calls today. Spring is in the air?

I went back to Weight Watchers officially. Over the last year I gained back an upsetting amount of weight… almost 20 pounds. Still down a LOT from my worst, but not a good trend.

The “new” online tool optimized for men is interesting. First off, it set me at 6 points a day higher than I used to be at the same weight. They must have decided that guys need more food than women. It’s funny that paying $16 a month is enough motivation to make me stick to eating well, vs. my own free self discipline, which was a failure.

I also don’t recall them allowing you to bank activity points for a whole week… a workout today could yield an ice cream tomorrow. Seeing as I get 2-3 activity points a day just going to work, that’s not a bad change ;)

What else is going on? Got a ton of molds to make… Fett gauntlets, jacket for the Fett helmet, Ahsoka headpiece (I wonder if it will fit zanylikethat?), another clone bucket, new Rex pistols. And I have to get cracking on my clone shins.

4:08. One hour to go today. Will tonight see motivation and energy, or Heroes watching on the sofa?

Speaking of Heroes. Star Trek. SO GOOD! I loved it. I’m not a huge Trek fan… I’ve seen my share of episodes and movies, but there are no gole velour Fleet shirts in my closet. But seriously good!

After messing up the relationship between iPhoto and Flickr, I had to delete and re-upload all of my photos.

Which is done now.

But the link is different.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/tk7602/collections/72157617744319183/

Tomorrow I go back to work, so that I can catch up on things what needed doing while I was gone.

Today, in an attempt to keep the streak going, we picked up some fresh, homemade pasta at the Italian shop a couple of blocks down the street from us. Homemade sauce too.

mmmm….
