Great day in Florence today, despite it being WAY too crowded. 1 May is a holiday, so this was a long weekend. PACKED doesn’t begin to describe it.
We did go to the Accademia to see Michaelangelo’s David. That was the only museum stop we had time for, but we spent about 45 minutes with David and the prisoners.
We weren’t able to go in the duomo, but did go in Santa Croche where we got to see the modest resting place of the aforementioned sculptor.
Lunch was street food… pizza and rice balls from a cart. When you only have 4 hours in the city, 5 euros for the two of us to eat lunch in 10 minutes is way better than a nice sit down meal.
We got gelato at Grom, a foo-foo place with all organic, in season flavors. Very very good… about 1/2 the ice cream for slightly more money than other places, but made with love.
Jodi went on a shopping spree, but I’ll leave that to her to talk about
At dinner time we went to the Certosa del Galluzzo, a monastery just outside of Florence. Absolutely gorgeous, and well worth the trip. After that visit we ate at the restaurant down the hill from the monastery, which was very tasty.
Now it’s bed time… tomorrow off to San Marino then Venice.
Florence is the first stop on the trip where I wished that I had more time to stick around. I’ll have to come back some day!!
