technical sidebar to the trip. if you have a CF card > 8 gig and a canon rebel xt, you CANNOT FORMAT THE CARD WITH THE CAMERA!!!!

it’s happy to use a 16 gig card. but it can only create a filesystem of 8gb or less.

if you format your 16 gig card in camera, you’ll lose 1/2 the storage!

it took a bit of googling, but i found this:

i just did that (which was really my main motivator to want to get online so badly!) and now have my other 8 gigs back and usable.

shooting in raw mode that is almost 1000 pictures. seeing as i shot 860 in rome on the first day that actually matters ;)

We have made it through Rome, and are now at our first relaxed evening where it was worth the 10 euros for internet access.

We’re in Perugia right now in a fantastic hotel… fancier I think than anywhere I’ve stayed before.

Hrm, what have we been up to? Sistine Chapel, Coleseum, St. Francis @ Assisi, food, food, food. Walking till our feet fall off.

I’ve taken many pictures so far. I’ll upload a few soon, but the next connection here isn’t so fast…

Tomorrow we head to Florence!

We leave for Logan in a couple of hours. I don’t know how much I’ll be online, but I would expect it to be relatively often, knowing me.

I’ll probably twitter about the trip here and there (@stormtrooperguy) and post pictures when I can.

We trooped at Star Wars Day at the Higgins Armory Museum today, and it was SO MUCH FUN!

It took me a while to figure out what it was… there were hundreds of kids there. Hundreds of well behaved kids, with their parents, who were there because they were super excited about the Star Wars stuff.

So as a result, rather than beating us with sticks, they were just psyched to be getting pictures with the Stormies, Jedi, Clones and Sith.

There were light saber demos, an armor making panel, and millions of photos. Well, it seemed like millions.

Rex was a crazy hit. This was my first time in an event as Rex with a lot of kids and me not just walking by. I felt like Santa Claus, but with pistols.

And the museum treated us so well… it was like if we wrote “this is what we’d love to have happen”, and they just followed it. They had food… breakfast and lunch. Drinks. Snacks. A changing room. A table in the main hall for us. Banners in the lobby. Free passes to come back and visit again.

Then after the event 2 members who live near the museum had a cookout / party, so we spent the rest of the night hanging out in their yard.

Overall, this is exactly what this sort of thing should be like all the time :)

The third book in the Coruscant Nights series came out recently, which makes me very happy.

This has been one of my favorite EU series. It’s a detective series set in a post order 66 world. A Jedi by the name of Jax Pavan is trying to keep doing good while keeping his Jedi life a secret.

There isn’t much in the way of direct tie in to characters from other stories, apart from Vader. For the most part it’s just people trying to get by in a world that wants them dead.

$600 for a little hood with a 185 cfm fan… yikes!!

i built a fully finished room in my basement with 2 of those fans and all of the ductwork to vent outside for $500. i guess doing it yourself really is a good thing!

Join the 501st and Rebel Legion at the Higgins Armory Museum on Saturday the 25th for Star Wars Day.

We’ll be doing a presentation on making armor our way, they have a lightsaber demo planned, and will be showing the Clone Wars movie.

I am sitting at starbucks using the free wifi. Free you say? Only for iPhones. Somehow posessing an item that grants me special privileges at starbucks feels wrong.

In other news, deadwinter is stuck at work, so I may be seeing the iron maiden movie solo tonight.
