And now on to the finish paint!

First, a word about my technique. I am an idiot. That's the best way to describe it. I wait until the moment the paint is dry to the touch before I move on to the next part of the painting. This is VERY dangerous! It's REALLY easy to mess things up this way!!! You also burn a lot of supplies. I went through 7-8 paint brushes and about 1/4 bottle of the latex masking fluid doing this.

Disclaimer done. What you see here was done over the course of 3 hours.

Not shown: coating the whole thing in a layer of Duplicolor dark grey primer

First, mask off the areas where you want the grey to show through...

Now paint the cheeks. This is the TK-409 recommended Rustoleum Sage Green

Next I turned it around and painted the back, this time using Rustoleum "America's Finest" in "green".

Once these are dry, I coated the entirety of the painted areas in the latex masking fluid. It takes a few coats to fully cover such a large area. Big brush for most of it, small detail brush for the edges.

Now come the mandibles. Rustoleum Hunt Club green, misted with Rustoleum "blue" and Rustoleum "black".

Now the mandibles get a few coats of latex, and the red goes on: Rustoleum Claret Wine.

More latex...

And then the Sage Green on the dome...

Once the dome dries, I peel off the latex and have the base of the paint job done! It's worth noting that the sage green gets a LOT darker when it dries! The color when wet is very misleading.
